Future research into Lyme disease and associated tick-borne diseases is needed

Lyme Disease Action advocates that a programme of urgent research be commenced into:

For those patients for whom alleviation of their intense day-to-day suffering is the most immediate concern:

Chronic and severe cases especially need help in bringing about real improvement in their quality of life. It is a matter of shame that there is often little real help for victims of active, chronic Lyme disease and associated tick-borne co-infections if also present.

Research is also needed into a fuller understanding of the complex biology of these diseases.

Lyme Disease Action advocates that steps be taken to foster both much needed research and an open, wide-ranging scientific debate in the UK about all the issues surrounding Lyme disease. In addition, Lyme Disease Action holds that taking a view that Lyme disease is rare and easily treatable is unacceptable; ignoring as it does a body of peer-reviewed evidence that indicates the contrary.

Lyme Disease Action is calling upon the Government to urgently bring about a programme of research into all aspects of Lyme disease and associated tick-borne diseases.
