The Infectious Disease Society of America (IDSA) Lyme Disease Review panel hearing took place on 30th July. The process for drawing up these guidelines was severely criticised by the Connecticut Attorney General in May 2008 and the IDSA agreed to convene a panel to review the evidence.
There were 18 presentations representing the views of patients, physicians and scientists on the 2006 IDSA Lyme Disease Guidelines. This hearing publicly aired views both for and against the 2006 guidelines, and the webcast has been archived. The panel is reviewing the evidence presented at the hearing, other literature and the 150 comments that they received from organisations (including LDA) and individuals. They expect to reach a conclusion by the end of 2009.
